Paint Process Engineer

This position reports directly to the President and is responsible for the general and specific job duties described below. Salary is dependent on experience.

General Job Duties:

Specific Job Duties:

  • Lead the daily operation of our robotic-spray UV-cure paint line for painting plastic substrates.
  • Lead the development of basecoats clear top-coats for multiple product opportunities
  • Develop part masking concepts and capability on paint line.
  • Set-up and develop painting process windows for waterborne and solvent borne UV basecoats, and UV clear-coats.
  • Maintain clean operating environment, including clean room, paint filters, and HEPA units.
  • Operate paint process and application equipment in order to satisfy the customer quality standards and delivery schedule.
  • Provide technical support to track data for paint cost per square foot by robot program.
  • Identify, communicate and document any difficulties relating to the product, process and/or quality system as per ISO-9001:2008 requirements.
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions utilizing error proofing techniques to prevent the occurrence of any non conformities relating to the product, process and/or quality system through designated channels.
  • Develop, implement, verify and document parameter settings for all paint process and application equipment for all products.
  • Verify and calibrate paint process and application equipment to ensure the accuracy and repeatability of the painting process.
  • Develop robotic path motions and operating parameters for the introduction of new products.
  • Communicate and cooperate with paint suppliers on usage optimization, formulation compatibility, paint performance and quality issues.
  • Work with equipment suppliers to accurately collect application and performance data on new technology tested in the painting process.
  • Train personnel in the operation of process equipment and procedures in accordance to any established control plan.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of PFMEA’s, control plans and ISO-9001 documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Previous industrial painting and robotic experience required.
  • Experience with industrial control, computer technology and programming is an asset.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred. Ten years work related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree. Work experience combined with current schooling towards degree will be considered.
  • Must be computer literate on the Windows platform.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires a person to have the ability to perform work while standing or walking for up to eight (8) hours a day, the ability to perform work while sitting for up to eight (8) hours a day and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds on an infrequent basis. Good vision at a close distance is required. Must be capable of performing repetitive motion at, above and below shoulder height for up to six (6) hours a day.

 


 

Paint Process Engineering Technician

This position reports to the Director of Operations with dotted-line reporting to Engineering. The candidate is responsible for the general and specific job duties described below. Salary is dependent on experience.

  • Operate the paint line in support of production, running customer’s production parts.
  • Assist with the completion of partially installed robotic-spray UV-cure paint lines for painting plastic substrates.

Mechanical Engineer III

This is a senior-level mechanical engineering position. It requires keen attention to detail and outstanding organization skills. The job necessitates managing multiple projects simultaneously in a small company environment. Therefore, the successful candidate needs strong multi-tasking skills.

Technical Skills Required:

  • Demonstrated mechanical engineering & design skills are necessary. This position will require strong visualization skills and creativity. The individual will take the lead in designing, detailing, and procuring complex three-dimensional masking and fixturing used in VTI’s Coating Services group.
  • This individual will also play a key role in the design, assembly, and integration of VTI’s industrial vacuum coating equipment. VTI is a leader in the vacuum coating equipment business with over 200 systems installed worldwide.
  • Proficiency with 3D modelling software is a must. A preference will be given to the candidate with experience and competence with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and Vault Pro.
  • Familiarity in the use of ERP software is required. This positions requires understanding the complexities of multi-level bills of materials, part numbering systems, work orders, planning, etc.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to ISO9000 quality management practices with specific experience with document control, change control, and revision control practices.
  • Experience with vacuum systems will be considered a significant plus. The candidate is expected to have a working knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems. Familiarity with electrical and controls engineering disciplines will also be consider advantageous.

Personal Traits Desired:

  • We are seeking a self-starter with good time management skills. The successful candidate will manage multiple priorities while keeping all of them moving forward. Good communication skills are needed for interaction with internal and external customers. VTI is a small company with a family atmosphere, consequently being a good team player is important.

Education & Experience:

    • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent discipline, plus a minimum of 5 years applicable experience is required. Must be US citizen or permanent resident.
